Question Skill Points

I was wondering about the skill points, and how many exactly you will be able to accumulate? Will there be enough to get all the skill attributes up or should I just concentrate on getting certain ones higher?

I'm a Ranger/Mesmer btw, and have just started the game about 12 hours ago. I really like it, and just want some early tips from experienced players.

I don't know if there is an upper limit to the number of skill points you can earn, but I doubt it. I would suggest that you conserve skill points by only buying skills you want for your particular build. Do all the missions and quest to earn skill points and get some skills as rewards.

Kuju, there is a difference between skill points and attribute points.

Skill points are earned through doing missions and certain quests, and after level 20, each time you "level" again, you earn another skill point. They are used to purchase skills and Signets of Capture to capture elite skills from bosses.

Attribute points, about which I believe you are asking, are used to bring up your skill lines. There is a limit to those, which is 200. You will get 170 by the time you are level 20, and there are two quests you can do to get a total of 30 more. One is located in the desert (Forgotten Ones --> Forgotten Wisdom), which you can do pre-ascension if you wish, and the other is located in Droknar's Forge, which you cannot get until you ascend.

It is typically a good idea to concentrate your attribute points into 2, at the most 3, skill lines. Otherwise you are spread too thin.

45 for levels 2-10 (5 each)
50 for levels 11-15 (10 each)
75 for levels 16-20 (15 each)

15 for the quest Forgotten Wisdom
15 for the quest The Hero's Challenge

It's best to focus on only two attributes until you're in the low/mid teens, then to focus on three. Four should wait until you've got the max 200 attribute points, and even then you really need to fiddle around and know the point of diminishing returns on the skills you're using, so a lot of people just stick with three attributes.

Where do you get those quests?

The forgotten wisdom quest is got by talking to one of the serpents <i can't exactly remember where> But he wants you to go to the arid sea and talk to his broodmate. After talking to the broodmate you get 15 new attribute points >arid sea is a little bit of a run from any outpost, but it's definitely worth it. Also, don't get stuck like I did. I kept running around the "mountain" where the guy sits on trying to find a way up..

Pay attention to that REALLY Large statue. Nature causes a natural bridge Use it. Hope that helped a bit.

[[Edit]] The quests can both be completed post-ascending. Just an FYI

Pre-Ascension = Forgotten Ones from Annelle Fipps in Destiny's Gorge (leads to Forgotten Wisdom)
Post-Ascension = Hero's Challenge (I believe) from Vanyi in Droknar's Forge. She will only give you this quest after you do Hero's Journey and one of the secondary-profession-changing quests - but I am not entirely sure of this because I have always done those quests beforehand.

Also I made a typo which I have corrected, in my previous post. You get 170 att points by level 20, not 175 like I originally typed.
